Learn Direct & Build

Learn Direct & Build is an award-winning collaborative venture which brings innovative, imaginative and flexible learning programmes to those engaged in training for the built environment in Scotland.

The teaching of built environment trades has followed very traditional methods and these 'time served' methods have helped produce highly skilled trades people for many years. These new online programmes enhance various aspects of the delivery of learning for the built environment.

The programmes have been developed within the current educational context - the need to meet the shortfall of skilled craft people and professionals within the built environment. These have been developed through a collaborative venture between the Learn Direct Build partners.

Feature story

Learn Direct & Build will produce, disseminate and market 30 construction e-packs (and supporting printed material) for a major new project funded by Scottish Enterprise Glasgow.

The project will cover:

• E-learning material on additional knowledge in associated skills areas for exisiting qualified (SVQ level 3) craftsmen with emphasis on repair and maintenance skills for new and existing buildings including those having conservation and/or retoration.
• E-learning material on additional knowledge for exisiting employees seeking to gain promotion to site manager roles. The e-packs will link to SVQ level 3 and level 4 construction supervision and management units.
• E-learning material on essential knowledge relating to construction sector business skills for SME and sole trader managers. The e-packs will link to SVQ level 3 and level 4 construction supervision and management units.

The launch event held at Glasgow Metroplitan College, was attended by key stakeholders and user groups.
